    Hi there,

we are a young start-up, working in a small niche market with a high quality product (craft and fashion) which is selling only online.

Our main marketing strategy is to grow by referals (due to transfer of knowledge, needed about our product) - but we are happy to hear other and better suggestions (as we are not very experienced in marketing)

question: which are the most cost effective ways to promote our online shop? which steps should be taken to develop a strong brand that sells online?

We would be greateful about any advise and suggestion which agency could deal with the suggestion made.

    Looking forward for any comments,

feel free to email directly to info(at)farmyarn(dot)co(dot)uk

    Hi,

I'd say if you are working in a small niche product area, then you have a very good chance of getting to the top of the Search Engines with the right SEO.

That said you need also to consider the 'Long-Tail' effect for your market and marketing. (Chris Anderson's book is a great read).

There are lots of ways to get your product and message out there, from blogs, forums, press releases, etc. Just take some time to talk to people in the field and find someone you feel understands you and your business needs.

My final comment would be to make sure your website is as good as it can be, before you start marketing. and driving people to it (and make sure you send them to a relevant page not just the home page every time). From the mechanics of the site to ensuring you have engaging, persuasive copy that works for your visitors and sells your products.

    All the best - Chris.

"The most cost effective ways" are affiliate, search and email marketing in our experience. Of course, these can become bottomless pits and so it is essential that they are done right. Read as much as possible and be very careful who you partner with. There's a lot of smooth talkers in online marketing, but 24 months ago they barely knew what Google was. 24 months from now they'll move onto something else.

We ourselves have been doing online marketing since 1997 and are the pioneers in the field. Our staff have a combined 64 years experience in the field and specialise in working with start-ups. You may read more about our services here.

We have a reputation for providing results for our clients at a reasonable cost. Should you be interested in possibly utilising our services, feel free to email us at results AT azam.net

Best of luck with your new business :)

To work marketing by social media (word of mouth and seeding for viral campaigns) you need to know where people discuss products like the ones you sell. Identify the forums, the blogs, user groups, social network groups and other social media where these discussions take place. You are then in a better position to take decisions on if and how you want to increase awareness and favourability towards your product by joining in the discussions, working viral campaigns or simply banner ads. You will also find out who your competitors are and what they are doing to promote themselves.

It’s important that you take 2 approaches to your web marketing; maximising your web visibility, and building a relationship with those who have made contact with you.

We can help you with the latter, by showing you how to build and develop a permission based email database that will reap rewards for your firm. Personalised, professional looking email marketing messages to your growing database will help you develop a relationship with your website visitors that will turn enquirers into prospects, and prospects into customers.  Please do contact us if you’d like to know more. www.dotmailer.co.uk
