Have you got examples of great site search interfaces?

This morning the Amazon.com Diamond Search interface was pointed out to me which I thought was a good example.

The other one which I think is effective (if you speak German...) is the Vodafone (Germany) Mobile Phone Finder - though that is in a pop-up window and uses Flash 7.

Any other ones you'd like to share? I'm particuarly interested in great uses of AJAX technologies...

I came across these interesting AJAX demos which include:

    - Drag and Drop AJAX Shopping Cart
    - Autocompleting AJAX text fields
    - Effects - Combination Effects Demo
    - Sortables - Lists Demo, Sortable Elements
    - Controls - Slider Demo

I came across quite a clever tool by www.guidester.com that is used by a number of technology retailers/manufacturers to help customers find the best product for them:

    Lexmark printers: www.guidester.com/lexmark

    Consumer electronics at Sparco.com: www.guidester.com/projector.aspx?s=47477067

    Consumer electronics at TigerDirect.com: www.guidester.com/mp3.aspx?s=40615957

    DVD players at RitzCamera.com: www.guidester.com/dvd.aspx?s=4387101

The implementation may not be the most elegant there is, but it manages to translate some of the needs analysis skills and the expert knowledge of a good sales assistant into a two dimensional (albeit dynamic) interface.

This also highlights the blurred boundary between interfaces for pure information retreival as opposed to support for decision making.

Over at <a href="http://www.anydesign.net/teaser>www.anydesign.net/teaser</a> you can see a clever use of AJAX techniques on animating a  vintage style sales meter. It process and displays in real time the sales results from 3 different e-commerce websites.
