I work for an advertising agencies and are in the process of setting up Facebook Pages for a number of our clients (Gov, cosmetics, food).

I want to do this using a Facebook business account rather than my own personal one.

However, to get one of these you need to spend $$$ on FB ads. We don't -- our clients do this via their media buyers. We design the ads, though.

I've posed this question to FB's an account manager here in Australia but without ad spend she doesn't have 'bandwidth' to help me.

Does anyone know how much one has to spend in FB ads to be eligible for a FB business account?

    Hi Lawrence

I've heard a lot of complaints about Facebook's lack of service recently. It seems to boil down to them expanding more quickly than they can service and also that they're only servicing the big spenders as a result.

Here's an illustrative comment (that I can't give the source for): "I've just spent the last week working on custom tabs and fixing fan pages for brands. We spend about $50K a month with Facebook but just getting any guidance for brand managers as to why the fan pages we had are now not working is next to impossible."

    This is from the US.

Hi Lawrence, Unfortunately it seems Ashley is correct here. I've asked a few social managers about their experiences and it seems tyou will need a pretty hefty ad spend in place to guarntee a response. We have had some functionality issues with the Econsultancy page in the past and I've struggled to elicit a response -based on Facebook's news today about Deals (essentially, UK users will be required to commit to a £50,000 minimum spend), I'm assuming this may be the ballpark figure for a guaranteed response.

I suspect this really is down to understaffing -Facebook obviously has to deal with millions of micro-adjustments every minute, leaving staff largely tied when it comes to dealing with smaller brand and fan pages. Unfortunately it appears the only way to guarantee a response is to communicate via one of your client's media partners -or possibly become friendly with a few of the FB tech staff;)

Sorry I can't offer more help at the moment,Functionality and support is a big issue currently, facebook's changes have madethe platform extremely unreliable in the recent past -I will look into this in more detail and let you know if I can uncover more information.

    Best,

    Matt

In the end we did get attention from an account manager for a project including AUD$ 10,000 worth of ads.

Given the attention threshold is much lower here it may be worth a UK company spending that amount for Australian eyeballs just to get some FB love!

That said, they have recently launched Facebook Studio - www.facebook.com. It seems to be a showcase more than anything else. There is a Learning Hub but I haven't seen anything new.

Would be great if they can open some forums there and have reps answer questions.

Thanks for the feedback! Now I'm off to like the Econsultancy page :)
