Does anyone have any thoughts / research etc on 'remember me' functionality and if its needed in the new browsers - I know firefox remembers passwords anyway if you let it so having a 'remember me' tick box under a login isn't necessary. Any thoughs / research?

Although Firefox does remember passwords, it still won't log in to the site automatically for you -- it'll just fill in the password (and username) next time you visit, so you still need to submit the login form manually. Typical 'remember me' functionality logs you in automatically each time you visit the site, which is usually more convenient.
