Just curious if anyone can direct me to information concerning "Best in Practice" or "World class" data as it pertains to web development and the processes there in. Any website, white papers or books that deal in this area would be appreciated.
Ashley, just bought the book and am really looking forward to reading through it.
Hope you enjoy the book. I haven't come across that much in terms of *web* best practice project management data and standards. However, I know of a couple of sites that I have used for information on similar things for project management more generally.
Below (in order of quality and relevance) are some of those sites:
The Project Management Forum
http://www.pmforum.org/ This is a good resource site for project management, including a good library, a “Project Management Calendar, the world's most complete list of project management conferences, events and meetings around the world” as well as other useful resources. There is also a Directory of Generally Accepted Project Management Practices at http://www.pmforum.org/prof/gapmp.htm which it sounds like you might be interested in.
Project Management Institute
http://www.pmi.org/ “PMI is recognized worldwide as the primary source of knowledge and wisdom in the field of project and program management.” Despite these claims I don’t actually use the site that often (and I’m not a member) but they do have a section on standards which you asked about at http://www.pmi.org/standards/ - could be useful?
Novient WebProject site
http://www.wproj.com/index.html A site mostly about the company’s virtual project management software but there is also a discussion forum on virtual project management.
Econsultancy’s How to Run a Successful E-commerce ITT best practice guide is absolutely essential reading for organizations considering a new e-commerce platform or upgrading their existing systems. The comprehensive 95-page report is aimed at helping in-company e-commerce managers to understand the skills and techniques required to manage the Invitation to Tender process in a professional and expedient manner.
