Online Marketing Controller at Allianz

Hi, I'm looking for a solution to the following problem.
Let's say I want to create a website that shows the location of all the bookshops in the UK (for example). Obviously I'm going to need a database that stores this information (business name, address, phone etc). But where do I get this information from?
Online directory enquiries services such as Yell.com and 118.com specifically state that their data may not be used to create your own database. Contacting them and asking about buying lists from them gives a similar answer - data may not be used to create anything that may be considered a rival service.
There are companies that sell marketing lists, but generally they are purely for the purposes of carrying out things such as a one-time mail shot.
Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

try companies house... this will miss smaller bookshops but then i guess they would find you if you were offering a service of value!
you could also have lots of fun finding the smaller book shops and create competitions for book worms to tell you were they are.

you can start a website on 'love of books' and get book lovers there.
they can get you information on book shops in their areas through forums.
this is using user generated content, as it is generated on your website, its your copy right.
