One of our Platinum Members just asked me who would be included in my 'Top 10 usual suspects' of UK-based social media agencies.
Specifically this was agencies (service providers rather than tech platforms) and it was to *exclude* the larger 'traditional' PR firms who are getting into social, and it was to exclude the search marketing agencies who have a strong social proposition (of which there are many).
The main focus was small-to-mid-sized social media agencies who also had a strong PR capability.
Below *in alphabetical order* is what I replied with:
1. 1000 Heads - http://www.1000heads.com/
2. Agency:2 - http://www.agency2.co.uk/
3. Content & Motion - http://www.contentandmotion.co.uk/
4. FreshNetworks - http://www.freshnetworks.com/
5. Furlong PR - http://www.furlongpr.com/
6. Immediate Future - http://www.immediatefuture.co.uk/
7. NixonMcInnes - http://www.nixonmcinnes.co.uk/
8. Umpf - http://www.umpf.co.uk/
9. We are Social - http://wearesocial.net/
10. Yomego - http://www.yomego.com/
Clearly I will now get shot down in flames for all those I've missed out... but please feel free to reply to this suggesting yourself or suggesting ones I've missed out.
[NOTE: if you're interested in the tech platform side of things then you should read our Online Reputation and Buzz Monitoring Buyer's Guide - at http://econsultancy.com/reports/online-reputation-and-buzz-monitoring-buyer-s-guide]

I'd also suggest Qube Media, headed up by Andrew Seel: http://www.qubemedia.net/

We do an awful lot of social media work, both for clients such as VK, RSM Tenon and Reckitt Benckiser and also on a white-label basis for agencies. It would be great to be on your radar ;)

I'd say that was pretty much the top 10 right now. SO many agencies 'doing' social now but this bunch have been doing it for a long time and have genuine insight and experience to offer.

Would be good to get a one-liner on why those agencies made your Top 10?

We launched Flagship Digital in January as an extension of Flagship Consulting. We're growing quickly and winning awards, so hope to be top 10 worthy soon!

@Ching-Har
These are agencies that a) have been 'doing social' for quite a while so have some track record and b) have done good work (various awards etc.) and c) most of whom I know personally so feel comfortable listing.

Would love to get into the top 10 at some point, but it's early days yet. http://www.found.co.uk

Thanks Ashley, I find it difficult to select social media suppliers, so many will claim to be able to deliver the world on a plate but seldom can. There is a lot of bullsh*t to wade through!

I was about to suggest Qube Media, but looks like Aliya beat me to it :)
