Job Description
About us
From contemporary looks inspired by the catwalk to shoes that put growing feet in safe hands, one name says it all: Clarks. The world number one in ‘Everyday Footwear’, we design, innovate, manufacture and sell more than 50 million pairs of shoes every year – and all across the globe too.
About e-commerce at Clarks
We know a thing or two about innovation here at Clarks. You’ll see it in all our products and, just as importantly, in the way we market and sell them. Take our approach to Multi-Channel Retailing (MCR) and e-commerce.
Today, our UK and European MCR systems operate 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Our websites attract 40,000 visitors a day and we already process more than 350,000 orders a year, valued at over £45 million. No wonder we were voted 'Best Multi-channel Retailer’ at the e-commerce Awards for Excellence in 2009. But we won’t stop there. We’re reaching out to new customers in new markets by launching new domestic e-commerce sites across Europe and further afield and we’ll continue to improve and develop our UK service. We’re relentless in our pursuit of innovation and excellence – a quality you’ll share.
About the role
Like us, you understand the importance of e-commerce in the retail mix, and you’ll build on our impressive work to date and ensure that we continue to dominate the online footwear market – right across the world. We’ll look to you to plan, manage and control the delivery and support of e-commerce business systems in line with our global Multi-Channel Retailing operations and ambitions. Or, put another way, to ensure that we’re making the most of all available technological opportunities, all the time.
Heading up a large, talented IT team, you’ll be our recognised e-commerce authority. With your finger firmly on the technological pulse, you’ll support and enhance current e-commerce technologies and, crucially, explore exciting new ones. And that could be anything from mobile marketing to e-commerce kiosks in store to, well, you tell us. You see, we want you to identify trends, developments and emerging technologies in e-commerce and apply them here at Clarks. That’s why you’ll regularly attend conferences, seminars and workshops. However, as well as developing the technology, we want you to develop your people. That way, we’ll have the skills and know-how needed to support and enhance our MCR systems, today and in the future.
Candidate Requirements
About you
Degree educated (or equivalent), you’ll already have substantial experience of developing and delivering e-commerce, ideally for a retail business. Technically sound and commercially switched-on, your knowledge of business processes and industry best practice is in-depth and up-to-the-minute. You’ll also know your way round e-commerce systems and the way they typically integrate with EPOS and backend systems such as SAP. Understanding of our current e-commerce technology e.g. Microsoft.net would be an advantage. All this impressive technical knowledge will be complemented by excellent people skills, including the ability to inspire everyone around you. It goes without saying that you’ll be a skilled project manager too.
Benefits
We want you to enjoy what you do and where you work. That’s why we’ll give you all the support you need. Not to mention the career development your hard work deserves. You’ll also enjoy 25 days’ holiday (plus Bank Holidays), and after a qualifying period, a generous company pension scheme and the chance to join our share save scheme. We’ll also give you a very healthy discount on Clarks products.
