Job Description

Our core subjects are based around e-commerce, digital marketing, user experience, SEO, social media and the evolution of business. Existing knowledge of these areas is expected, as you’ll be writing about these topics on a daily basis.

You will need to be naturally inquisitive. You will need a thick skin. You will be very keen to succeed. And you will not need – or want – to be micromanaged. We’re looking for a hard-working self-starter with plenty of ideas.

Here’s what we’re looking for in an ideal candidate. Most of these 15 points are filed under ‘essential’.

1. The highest of editorial standards
2. Factual accuracy and attention to detail
3. An understanding of content marketing
4. An awareness of George Orwell’s six rules for writing
5. The ability to learn fast
6. The ability to ask all the right questions
7. The kind of listening skills that would shame an owl
8. Analytical skills and a fearless approach to data
9. Connections and an existing social media footprint
10. Basic technical knowledge
11. An allergy to PRspeak and jargon
12. A distinctive voice
13. Boundless charm
14. Diligence
15. Gumption

Regular tasks will involve writing news stories, conducting interviews, researching and compiling features, assisting analysts with research projects, attending Econsultancy / industry events, mining data sources for treasure, undertaking content marketing tasks, and wearing various hats.

Writers will be based out of our office in London (EC1). There are myriad benefits to joining Econsultancy, including free gym membership for the saints, and beers on Friday for the sinners. We operate in a fantastic working environment and are growing quickly, with offices in North America and Asia.
