Samsung first to run display ads on YouTube mobile site

Samsung will today become the first UK advertiser to run display ads on YouTube’s mobile site.

The YouTube mobile advertising forms part of a wider marketing launch campaign for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, which will run across in-game advertising with PlayStation, online search and display, mobile advertising, outdoor and print.

Built around the creative platform Life Without Limits, the campaign will focus on the size and portability of the tablet PC, which weighs 380g.

In the YouTube placement, planned by Starcom, Samsung will run four different creative formats over 24 hours, with display ads linking to the Galaxy Tab’s dedicated mobile internet site m.youtube.com.

Gabby Hegerty, head of digital at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said YouTube’s mobile site is a channel that will no doubt become “one of the UK’s leading mobile advertising platforms”.

According to Google, the YouTube mobile site receives around 100m video playbacks a day, with over an hour of footage uploaded from a mobile device each minute.

Bruce Daisley, YouTube head of display, said, “We’re seeing massive growth in mobile consumption, so to launch this offering with such an exciting new product is fantastic.”
