Mental health charity Mind is using Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter to encourage people to talk about mental health in the workplace.
The charity is asking people not to “ignore the elephant in the room” by highlighting its work around mental health issues.
It has set up a profile for an elephant on Facebook and is encouraging people to tag it into the background of their friends’ photos. It hopes people will then click through to the profile, which will display the message ‘Don’t ignore the elephant in the room’.
The charity is using Foursquare to check into offices as the elephant, hoping people will notice it.
The campaign was created by digital agency Weapon7.
Ruth Richards, head of communications at Mind, said, “Mental health at work is a huge problem that’s all too often ignored. Right now, one in six workers is experiencing unmanageable stress, depression or anxiety at a cost to the UK economy of £26bn a year.
“We want to get people talking about the elephant in the room, and believe this social media campaign brings the issue to life and encourages people to engage with it,” she added.
