Nicholas Wheeler, MD of ITN On, ITN’s multimedia division, is leaving following an internal restructuring.

ITN On has been merged into a new division, ITN Productions, which houses all non-TV news programme making. Previously it made video content for online and mobile, making news, entertainment and lifestyle programming for brands.

ITN said it was in advanced stages of recruitment for the position of MD of ITN Productions. Wheeler headed ITN On for seven years, during which time he developed partnerships with publishers like MSN, Telegraph Media Group and Yahoo, and mobile operators including O2 and Vodafone.

He joined ITN as chief editor of IRN in 1995 from Capital Radio. He set up London’s first rolling news format, News Direct 97.3 FM, and was responsible for moving the station to ITN’s Gray’s Inn Road headquarters.

Commercial director Mark Browning is taking over Wheeler’s day-to-day responsibilities until the ITN production MD is in position.
