Viral chart: P&G accounts for 67.3% of all shares of sponsor video ads

P&G has topped the new media age Olympics viral chart, accounting for over two-thirds of the total shares of Olympic sponsor video ads.

In the new media age Olympics Viral Chart, powered by Unruly, P&G ad ‘Best Job’ alone counts for 57.5% of the total shares of official sponsor ads online but in counting P&G’s other ads the FMCG brand has a 67.3% share.

The chart tracks branded video content officially or unofficially tied to the Olympics that is produced or distributed in the UK and is based on the amount of times content has been shared on Facebook, Twitter, and in the blogosphere.

The second most shared Olympic sponsor was Adidas, making up just 6.2% of total shares with 282,203 shares overall. The third most shared Olympic sponsor was Samsung with 196,082 shares. See chart below.

Non-official sponsor Nike started to see some traction during the Olympics after carrying out ambush marketing throughout the tournament. Overall the sports brand gained 198,857 shares which would have placed it at fifth place in the overall rankings. Until this week it was looking as though it may catch rival sportswear brand and official sponsor Adidas up in the number of shares but a video of Team GB singing ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, released by Adidas this week, helped boost its share numbers significantly.

Some of the brands in the chart are seemingly low down, with much smaller levels of shares but the chart is based on video ad content and some brands may not have focused on video. Low scoring brands include McDonald’s with 38,508 shares overall, Cadbury’s with 28,834 and Lloyds with 2,638 shares overall.
