Clickstream launches web log auditing solution for compliance applications
* Clickstream STAT automatically keeps a tamper-proof record of user behaviour with web-based interfaces *
15 March 2005, Cambridge, UK – Clickstream Technologies has launched a new software application, Clickstream STAT, to provide a secure, time-stamped audit trail of interaction with web-based interfaces.
Clickstream will be launching STAT at the Technology for Compliance exhibition, where Clickstream will be a guest of its new partner Grey Matter on stand 804. The show takes place 16-17 March 2005 in London.
Clickstream STAT – short for ‘Secure Timed Audit Trail’ – has been developed by combining Clickstream’s automated data capture solution Datasherpa with nCipher’s Document Sealing Engine (DSE 200). The DSE 200 provides time-stamps in such a way that any attempt at changing the data or the time stamp will be immediately evident.
The combined solution will enable companies to keep an evidentiary-quality record of all clicks and transactions that take place on any website, intranet, or extranet.
The advantages of this integrated solution are:
• It automatically produces signed, time-stamped web log data;
• It binds business identity and time of day to web logs;
• It makes web logs tamper-evident;
• It provides simple and cost effective implementation of digital signatures;
• It secures audit trails and log files for regulatory compliance and legal submission; and
• It eliminates expensive paper processes.
Working automatically in the background, Datasherpa provides each computer accessing the web site with a unique ID. It accurately tracks 100% of all visitors, sessions, page impressions, content viewing times, and download times. The data captured includes any entries in forms which are completed, including those for registration or ecommerce. All of these actions and behaviours are correctly linked to the unique user. All of the tracking is automatic so that no pages, clicks or transactions can be missed.
nCipher's DSE 200 is an easily deployed and cost effective time stamping solution comprising a networked appliance and a developer’s toolkit. It allows the integration of secure digital time stamp signatures into security applications. The DSE 200 is designed to operate with independently provided calibration and audit services. These services offer traceable and secure links to official Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) sources. The DSE 200 can take any data file and apply a “signed” time stamp. The signing keys for digital time stamp signatures are secured within a FIPS 140-2 tamper-resistant cryptographic boundary.
“Many industries need to be able to provide detailed tamper-proof records of online activity,” said Titus Suck, Clickstream’s director of sales and marketing. “Having this information enables companies to resolve disputes and trace suspicious activities to individuals for further investigation. It also simplifies legislative compliance and so cuts risk.”
At the Technology for Compliance event, Clickstream will be exhibiting with its newest partner Grey Matter, which signed a reseller agreement last week. Jill Davis, services operations manager at Grey Matter, said: “The compliance burden on companies is increasing all over the world. We can see massive potential for technologies that enable accurate records of user behaviour to be kept automatically, in a secure and tamper-proof way. Clickstream STAT extends our portfolio of compliance products. In the longer term, we hope to also resell Clickstream’s Datasherpa product for web analytics applications.”
Titus Suck of Clickstream said: “Grey Matter is a strategic partner for Clickstream. Our inclusion in Grey Matter’s catalogue will significantly broaden the number of potential customers we are able to reach. The inclusion of Clickstream STAT in Grey Matter’s compliance portfolio is a powerful endorsement of the application’s quality and potential.”
