Judging is conducted in two stages, involving Econsultancy analysts and a panel of industry experts, selected for their own excellence and innovation in particular disciplines of digital marketing.

  1. In the first stage, Ashley Friedlein, CEO of Econsultancy, and his team will review all entries and create a shortlist per category.
  2. The shortlisted entries will then be handed over to our panel of client-side companies known for innovation including Tesco, Nokia, FT.com, BT, BSkyB — and many more to be confirmed over the next few weeks.

Shortlisted entries are scored by both Econsultancy and the industry experts with final scores being a combination of the two.

Warren Buckley, Managing Director, Customer Services, BT

Warren has more than 20 years experience in customer service and, more recently, e-service. This includes positions at the major telcos Vodafone, Orange and now BT. At BT Warren is responsible for all customer services activities for 15 million BT Retail Consumer Customers including 10,000 staff, 45 centres in UK and India. If you've ever had a customer service letter from BT then it probably has Warren's name and signature at the bottom of it...

Kevin Cochrane, VP Enterprise Marketing, Adobe Systems

As Vice President of Enterprise Marketing, Customer Experience at Adobe, Kevin Cochrane leads the company’s worldwide enterprise product marketing efforts to enable companies and government organizations to provide engaging business experiences via next-generation customer experience management (CEM) enterprise solutions. Kevin and his team are responsible for defining Adobe’s enterprise go-to-market strategy and product launch process. He drives organizational readiness, messaging, positioning, packaging, pricing and competitive analysis for the Adobe Digital Enterprise Solutions Business Unit.

Chris Combemale, Executive Director, DMA

Chris is the Executive Director of the Direct Marketing Association with overall responsibility for all DMA activity in the UK.

Chris is a dual French/US citizen with over 30 years digital marketing, advertising, and direct marketing experience in Europe, the USA and Asia/Pacific.

From 2000 to 2009, Chris developed Emailvision into Europe’s leading email service provider (ESP) in his dual roles of Chief Operating Officer and UK Managing Director. Emailvision currently has offices in 18 countries.

Chris launched his career in New York with Young & Rubicam and his 12 years at Y&R included founding the Wunderman direct-marketing office in Singapore in 1992 and managing the Wunderman office in Hong Kong. Chris moved to London in 1994 as European Direct Marketing Director for Franklin Mint and created his own on-line catalogue company (Living Heritage) in 1998.

Ian Crook, Marketing Director, Tesco.com

Ian joined Tesco in 1996 having worked previously for both Marks and Spencer and Early Learning Centre as well as working in Retail Consultancy.

On joining Tesco, he was responsible for helping to set up the new non food business and the Extra format. After various roles in commercial buying, he moved to Marketing in 2002, and ran Local Marketing and Brand Communications before moving to UK Marketing Director for the stores business in 2005. In 2007 he moved to Tesco dot com with overall responsibility for how Tesco uses the internet as a business as well as the marketing for the Grocery and Direct trading sites.

Eric Crossfield, Web Analytics Manager, John Lewis Financial Services

Eric has been Web Analytics Manager at John Lewis Financial Services since 2010. Before that he held a number of roles at retailer Lands' End UK including responsibility not just for analytics but other digital disciplines such as paid and natural search, user experience, merchandising. Prior to working in digital and e-commerce, Eric worked in financial services and began his career in the Royal Navy.

Michael Donnelly, Group Director, Worldwide Interactive Marketing, The Coca-Cola Company

As Group Director, Worldwide Interactive Marketing for The Coca-Cola Company, Michael is responsible for increasing the understanding, testing, adoption and effective use of Digital Marketing and Emerging Media amongst our marketers throughout the world. Working in the interactive marketing arena since 1998, Michael has recently been focused on creating effective programs in Social Media Mkt, Consumer Generated Media, Virtual Worlds and on expanding the company effective use of Search Engine Marketing. Programs under his supervision have recently won “Best in Show” at OMMA, Silver and Bronze awards at MIXX, a Creative Media Award from Media Magazine, 2 achievement awards from the Society for New Communications Research and an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for Best Use of Commercial Advertising on Stand Alone Broadband Devices".

Michael was with Johnson & Johnson for 9 years prior to joining The Coca-Cola Company. There, as part of their Global Marketing Group, he led their Interactive Marketing Center of Excellence and focused on developing an incoming pipeline of emerging media opportunities and on creating a community for marketers to test, learn and share experiences.

Ben Eva, Head of Central Marketing USA, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC

Ben is an experienced marketing & management professional with a track record of building teams that exceed targets. He has more than 17 years experience in developing strategies to grow revenues for a wide variety of B2B media and information businesses – with a strong emphasis on digital business models. He is very experienced in launching, re-engineering and transitioning to digital business models to optimize revenue growth.

Ben is currently Vice President / Head of Central Marketing USA for Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC. Where he manages a 65+ strong sales, marketing, operations, audience development and database team for a wide portfolio of subscription and event businesses.

Richard Foan, Group Executive Director, Communication & Innovation, ABC

Richard is Group Executive Director of Communication & Innovation at ABC. Richard is a very well known personality in the digital media industry who is respected for his experience and informed opinion. He facilitates innovation and communication at ABC in line with industry needs.

Richard is Chairman of the global IFABC Web Standards Group and Chairman of JICWEBS (Joint Industry for Web Standards in the UK and Ireland). Richard regularly presents to the global media industry on issues associated with the accountability of digital media.

Will Grant, Web Technology Professional

Will is a web technology professional with over 10 years experience overseeing the design, architecture and marketing of powerful web sites that are easy (and even fun) to use.

As well as working on large-scale web systems for local and national government with millions of users, Will has completed post-graduate training in usability and interaction design by Jakob Nielsen - the world leader in usability.

Will was Technology Director at Buto, a web-based online video platform and responsible for its technology platform and user experience. He also works as a trainer for Econsultancy, running our Creating an Innovation Culture course.

Simon Harrow, Chief Operating Officer, Kiddicare

Simon Harrow is the COO of Kiddicare.com, responsible for driving business growth through strategy development and execution. With a strong academic background and eight years experience in award winning businesses – Simon has marketing, technical and planning experience. He has developed digital strategies for MoneySupermarket.com, ASDA, Eurocamp, Crown Paints and William Hill as well as helping to build Kiddicare into one of the most innovative and respected ecommerce businesses in the UK. Simon is also active within a number of industries groups, sitting on global, European and UK advisory boards for a number of companies.

Craig Hepburn, Global Director, Digital & Social Media, Nokia

Craig is well recognised as a pioneer and expert in digital, particularly social media. Craig has spoken at various Econsultancy events in the past and is always very well received thanks to his expertise, honesty, and engaging speaking style. At Nokia Craig is responsible for aligning all paid and social media activities across the Nokia digital strategy. Craig leads a team of highly skilled experts who are driving the centre of digital media excellence and ensuring a high standard of strategic execution along with the creation of a company-wide social media taskforce representing sales and marketing. Craig has overall responsibility for digital innovation and management of core media agencies.

Prior to Nokia Craig spent two years at Open Text / RedDot as Director of Social Media Strategy and before that Craig spent almost three years at STA Travel ending up as Head of E-commerce.

Guy Hipwell, Independent adviser

When it comes to luxury etailing few have as much experience as Hipwell. Starting his retail career at Arcadia, he then spent over five years as director of home shopping at Harrods before moving onto Liberty, where he was managing director of online and director of supply chain until June this year.

Hipwell still works at Liberty on a consultancy basis and is continuing as an advisor as well as persuing new ventures both here and in Europe. He oversaw the re-launch of Liberty’s website, which is credited as one of the stronger in the luxury market and is a regular speaker at ecommerce events.

Liberty was bought by Marco Capello in July in a £32m deal via BlueGem Capital. It is not yet known what its multichannel strategy will be but with Hipwell still involved it is likely to be an important growth channel.

Luxury retail has still got some catching up to do in terms of online but with more and more brands coming round to the benefits of the channel, and with big budgets available, Hipwell is sure to be in demand.

Charlotte Robertson, Vice President Digital Marketing North America, EMI Music

Charlotte Robertson, as vice president of consumer reach, is driving the development of new ways for EMI to reach and build relationships with music fans across linear and digital channels, and is building capabilities which will allow EMI to deliver value in every part of the music experience. She was most recently head of marketing for British Sky Broadcasting’s Online Business Unit. While at BSkyB, she played an integral part in growing sky.com to become the UK’s fourth largest portal in just two years. She also held a pivotal role in the launch and success of Sky’s High Definition TV service which saw Sky create and dominate the UK HD market. Before joining Sky, Robertson held marketing roles at LG Electronics and Robert Bosch Ltd.

Helen Southgate, Senior Online Marketing Manager, BSkyB

Helen has been working in the affiliate industry since 2002 with just over 7 of those years spent working at two affiliate networks with roles in Account Management and Head of Affiliates.

In September 2009 Helen joined BSkyB as Senior Online Marketing Manager where she manages the PPC Search and Affiliate Channels.

Helen is the current appointed chair of the IAB Affiliate Council, responsible for setting the council’s objectives for developing best practice initiatives and guidelines within the Affiliate industry.

Jonathan Wall, Group E-commerce Director, Shop Direct Group

Jonathan is responsible for the commercial side of Shop Direct Group's websites including Very, Littlewoods and isme.com. He manages the teams who drive the traffic to these sites and then optimise conversion rate on-site.

Previously Jonathan was CEO at Flowersdirect who are one of the leading Floral Relay networks in the UK with 900 florist members who can deliver orders same day to 90% of the UK population.

Before that Jonathan was Marketing Director at Dabs.com, responsible for consumer business channels, marketing and product merchandising and oversaw the successful migration of the BT Shop to the Dabs.com platform.

John Watton, Director, Director, Global Brand & Marketing, Expedia Affiliate Network

John leads the global marketing team for Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN), an independent subsidiary of Expedia, Inc., which provides private label solutions to the travel industry.

John has 20 years’ sales and marketing leadership experience in the technology space, spanning internet, e-commerce, enterprise software and SaaS. Before joining EAN, John was at ShipServ, the leading B2B e-marketplace to the $60bn marine & offshore supplies industry. As Chief Marketing Officer, John was instrumental in strategic changes that led to a complete re-branding of the business, the development of new product income streams and the introduction of demand generation processes that together more than tripled revenue in less than three years.

Previously, John held marketing management positions at Cramer/Amdocs, Microsoft, Ariba, SAP and Oracle.

John has received many awards in recognition of his marketing leadership and in 2009 was named Marketer of the Year by B2B Marketing Magazine. He has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Manchester.
