With regards to 'bridging the gap between offline and online marketing', I think that many businesses are finding that in order to accurately measure the effectiveness of their online and offline marketing, they need to monitor the interaction between the two. However don't forget that each type of marketing will trigger multiple types of conversions - online, phone, mail order etc and I think it's just as important to measure these as well. A lot of customers that find you online might want some form of human contact before making a purchase, particularly if it costs a significant amount of money such as an expensive holiday or requires emotional investment such as life insurance. This type of conversion has not been as easy to measure as other types before call tracking technology became available.
By tracking off and online marketing to offline conversions you can get a full picture of the ROI for each form of marketing and this in turn, will help to improve your future marketing ROI.

The 'How not to design a website' rings a few bells. Over the years I've seen a number of good designs go bad through too much tinkering and interference.
