The Christmas shopping season would seem to be already well underway for online retailers in the UK, according to stats from comScore.
The measurement group says UK-based etailers generated 23% more visits to their secure web pages in the third week of November, compared to October as a whole.
By contrast, online shopping activity rose less slowly in France (by 18%), and actually fell in Germany, thanks to the knock-on effect of strikes on the e-commerce sector.
Despite that disruption, comScore said that the figures backed up a survey it released last week, which found UK shoppers intended to start their Xmas shopping earlier than their French and German counterparts.
Bob Ivins, comScore EVP of European Markets, said:
“Over the next few weeks, we would not expect to see a huge increase in the number of online shoppers – they are already there – accounting for 70% of the total European online population.
"But what we will see is a significant increase in the frequency of shopping online, and an increase in the conversion of browsers to buyers, which ultimately means more online sales this Christmas.”
