The power and growth of mobile marketing: infographic

If you are a frequent reader of the Econsultancy blog, you’ll be well aware that mobile is an extremely important channel for marketers.

The ability to target consumers anytime, anywhere, is a massive opportunity for brands and advertisers, so it’s no wonder that mobile marketing investment is predicted to triple in the next four years.

But in order to make best use of the opportunity, advertisers need to understand who is using mobile and what they are using it for.

This infographic from HighTable examines the demographics that are driving the boom in mobile usage.

The graph that shows the age distribution of mobile web users has left out an important age group: the 0-13 year olds! Don't laugh, I'll cite my neighbour's 3 daughters as examples: the 2-year old's favourite 'toy' is her mum's ipad, she spends hours on it each day and knows how to find her favourite cartoons (including Pepa Pig) on YouTube. The 6-year has password-protected access to her school-class' website which hosts assignments etc, and she knows how to search for birthday presents on eBay. And then there is the 12-year old who does all her homework online and has created websites(!) for school assignments. I do not think these 3 children are unique, their classmates are all doing schoolwork online and playing games on their parents' ipads and smartphones; and my best friend recently discovered that his 10-year old son has more than 500 'friends' on Facebook, several of who are his classmates and therefore in his age-group.

This info graphic does a great job of highlighting how intense the competition in the mobile marketing is becoming especially in e-commerce and social media. The amount of online brands like Facebook that are looking for further acquisitions.
