Vikki Chowney is head of community at creative communications agency TMW. She's a former journalist, most recently as news editor for Econsultancy.
Prior to that she was content editor for the JaguarFuture.com project, created by Jaguar to tell the stories behind the C-X16 concept car.
From 2009 - 2011 Vikki was editor of Reputation Online, a sister title to new media age at Centaur Media that presented both editorial and user-generated coverage of the digital PR landscape. During her time there she penned a weekly column for NMA on the same topic.
She helped to co-found The Really Mobile Project, contributing to the site regularly during its early life - and penned a monthly column for Communicate magazine throughout 2011.
She was part of the founding team of writers for BitchBuzz.com, an independent women’s lifestyle network with readers spread across the US & UK.
A G20Voice blogger for Oxfam at the London and Pittsburgh Summits in 2009, her work has featured in The Guardian, Mobile Industry Review, within Marketing Week and many others.
Vikki has also provided freelance consultancy to the likes of Vodafone, O2, Talk Talk and Big Yellow Self Storage.
In a previous life Vikki worked in PR, specialising in digital and social media for clients including Acceleration, ZYB, Skype and Vodafone.

Tesco has today launched its first augmented reality programme that will allow customers to view 3D images of more than 40 products from the electronics and entertainment sections both instore or online.
Powered by augmented reality firm Kishino, people can use computer terminals now located in seven Tesco stores across the UK to scan a product code or Tesco Direct catalogue.

After 24 months of development, Tweetmeme CEO Nick Halstead has today unveiled DataSift, a platform from which to manage and filter large amounts of unstructured social data.
The second company to spin out of Halstead’s MediaSift parent group (Tweetmeme being the first), the company describes itself as a scalable solution for managing large volumes of social information from a variety of sources - as well as a ‘sophisticated resyndicator' of real-time Twitter.

Two ex-Hill & Knowlton executives have launched PRINT, a new measurement system that aims to show significant correlation between social media footprint and value & growth.
Similar to the likes of Klout, PeerIndex and Kred from PeopleBrowsr, the PRINT methodology measures five key attributes of social media ‘performance’: popularity, receptiveness, interaction, network reach and trust.

Social enterprise software firm Buddy Media has been selected as a launch partner for Google+ Pages.
Following the launch of Google+ Pages last week, which allows businesses and brands to create an official presence on the social platform, Google has chosen a small number of third party developers to participate in a trial.
In Buddy Media's case, this will mean that Google+ functionality is integrated into its social marketing product, ConversationBuddy.

According to figures released today, Android has doubled its market share of worldwide smartphone sales in Q3 of 2011.
The stats from Gartner show quite astonishing growth, as 52.5% of all smartphones sold in this period were built on the Android OS, up from just over 25% in the same period a year ago.

Fresh from yesterday’s tongue-in-cheek press ad, The Times has announced that it will be the first national to offer free advertising in its iPad edition as part of a package when paid-for space is booked in print.
The trial, which is expected to include John Lewis, will offer brands free static ads in what The Times has referred to as 'one sell'.

Boots provides the best multichannel user experience, according to a new report, just a week after announcing a major overhaul in this area.
The retailer introduced a "massive shift” in the way it trains and rewards staff last week, with the focus moving from sales figures to customer care measures.
According to Webcredible's 2011 Multichannel Retail Report, Boots offered the best overall experience, followed by M&S, Debenhams and Waterstones in joint second place.

Research from Google's Enterprise division and Vanson Bourne has revealed the growing popularity of mapping technology to help shape marketing strategy, but that adoption across broader business functions is hampered due to ‘internal politics’.
90% of 250 marketing managers in the transport, finance, public sector and retail industries said that they are using, or have plans to use, mapping and geospatial technology as part of their marketing strategy.

LinkedIn has launched a new statistics dashboard that will provide insights and analytics into every group within the social network.
Anita Lillie, data visualisation designer at LinkedIn, announced the news on the company’s blog. She outlined that the tool, called Group Statistics, aims to help people work out how active a group is, what kind of professionals contribute to it and how valuable it could be.

According to Econsultancy's State of Social 2011 report, produced in partnership with LBi and bigmouthmedia, two-thirds of companies have moved beyond the experimental phase of their social media strategies.
Following similar surverys in 2009 and 2010, this year’s research also shows that companies are now focused on the ‘big four’ networks. Not only this, but social media activity is more likely to be integrated with other marketing channels and across business functions.
