Toy retailer Toys R Us has just released a new mobile website, as well as apps for both Blackberry and iPhones.
The new app is targeted for the US market at the moment, though UK users can download it from the App Store. I've been trying the Toys R Us Big Book app out...

Another example of the potential of mobile commerce comes from Pizza Hut, with its iPhone app generating $1m in sales in the three months since launch.
The app, which allows customers to order food on the move, is approaching the figure of 1m downloads. It is only available in the US at the moment.

Online auction giant eBay recently announced that it has generated $380m in sales through its mobile commerce channel, showing the potential value of m-commerce for retailers.
The figures are interesting, especially as other large retailers such as Amazon have yet to reveal their mobile commerce sales, and shows that enough shoppers are prepared to make purchases on their mobiles to make it worthwhile for retailers.

US book retailer Barnes & Noble has just launched an iPhone app which allows users to shop from their mobiles, as well as using the camera to search for products.

Fashion etailer Net-a-Porter launched a mobile commerce app for the iPhone last week, allowing customers to browse and buy on the move.
The iPhone app displays what seems to be a limited range of stock, showcasing new arrivals and the retailer's magazine. I've been finding out how easy it is to browse and buy from the Net-a-Porter app.

Mobile commerce is still in its early stages and, while there are
very few m-commerce sites in the UK, 5% of the Top 500 US online
retailers have them, with more on the way.
Translating the desktop shopping experience to mobiles isn't easy,
and keeping it simple and usable is important for users with small
screens and often slow internet connections.

Shopping aggregator site ShopStyle has launched a iPhone app which allows users to buy fashion items from a range of retailers, including John Lewis, Net-A-Porter and others.
The ShopStyle app, launched this week, lets you browse through 4,000 brands, and then either email links to purchase later, or buy straight from the phone.

It's currently covering just the Queens area of New York, but Burger King has started to trial a mobile commerce app for the iPhone, as a way of maximising orders.
Customers can use the app to order and pay for their meals and skip queues at their local Burger King. I've been pretending to be in Queens so I can try the app out....
