The mobile web is poised to be big. Really big. In fact, Morgan Stanley is estimating it's going to be at least twice the size of the "desktop internet." Within five years, the report predicts more users will connect to the web via mobile devices than PCs.
Morgan Stanley's report on the topic is truely massive: a 424 page report covering eight major themes; and an accompanying 659 slide PowerPoint deck. Both are available for download on the company's website.

Publishers could be missing out when it comes to international visitors to their sites, with only 17% of revenue coming from overseas visits, despite international traffic accounting for 28% of visits.
This is one of the findings from the Econsultancy's Online Publishers Survey Report, produced in association with the Rubicon Project.

The latest stats from IMRG suggest that the postal strike in October cost £53m in lost sales online, as growth dipped during the month.
Total online retail sales for October were £4.2bn, up both on last year's and September's figures. However, growth dipped in the last two weeks of the month, as the strikes affected consumer confidence.

While there are still concerns about the economy, the outlook for online retail this Christmas seems generally bright, with a number of consumer surveys predicting an increase in consumer spending online.

According to a new survey, 93% of consumers are planning to do at least some of their shopping online this Christmas, with 71% planning to buy more than half of their gifts on the web.
The survey by eDigitalResearch and IMRG reveals that more people are planning to shop online this year, and now that the threat of Royal Mail strike action has receded, there is some cause for optimism for online retailers.

The fact that having user reviews can be an effective sales driver, providing valuable information for customers is well established, but how do retailers attract reviews onto their product pages?
I looked at ways etailers can attract reviews a few months ago. One of those ideas was to email customers after purchase and invite them to leave a review of the product(s) they had bought. A recent report from Snow Valley(pdf) takes a closer look at the issue...

Of all visitors to e-commerce sites, 38.6% are there to research products and prices, and to gather information, though just 85% are able to complete this task successfully.
This is one if the findings of an iPerceptions e-commerce survey, suggesting that improvements in navigation and usability can have a significant impact on sales.
