Another survey about the cost of social network use is doing the rounds today, this one suggesting that workers' use of Twitter and other social networks costs the UK economy £1.34bn in wasted time.
As with many of these types of surveys, on social network use during work, or using worktime for Christmas shopping, fails to take shrinking lunchtimes into account, as well as the potential benefits of having employees using Twitter.

The Wall Street Journal may have declared "The End of the Email Era" this week, but that obituary went live far too soon.
Email is still alive and kicking. Beyond the fact that email usage still continues to grow, it is also a key factor in all of the more recent social tools that are seeing explosive growth. And according to a new study by Pontiflex, marketers are finding consumers much more willing to share information via email than social media, meaning that email is still an integral tool in marketing campaigns.

Customers who experience problems when conducting transactions online
are sharing these experiences on social media sites; 13% this year compared with 8% in 2008.
This is one of the findings of a Tealeaf survey of online customer behaviour, and provides another reminder that online retailers need to focus on customer experience, especially as 74% of
online adults said negative comments read online have an influence on whether they will do business with a company.

Online businesses have plenty of room for improvement, with 39% saying they are dissatisfied with their conversion rates, and just a quarter claiming to be either 'very' or 'quite' satisfied.
This is one of the findings from our Conversion Report, produced in association with RedEye, which presents the results of a survey of 700 company and agency respondent about their approach to conversion rates.

Display ad purveyors have desperately been trying to climb out from under the thumb of click-through rates, and a new study from comScore shows that they better do so quickly. The number of people who have clicked on display ads has dropped 50% in the last year. Even worse, only 8% of people online accounted for 85% of the display ad clicks.

Online auction giant eBay recently announced that it has generated $380m in sales through its mobile commerce channel, showing the potential value of m-commerce for retailers.
The figures are interesting, especially as other large retailers such as Amazon have yet to reveal their mobile commerce sales, and shows that enough shoppers are prepared to make purchases on their mobiles to make it worthwhile for retailers.
