A video purporting to show users how to become a tester for a forthcoming TV service to be launched by Google has split the web over claims it is a hoax.
A clip posted to YouTube by tech tutorial channel Infinite Solutions on Friday told viewers they could access high-quality US network TV shows as part of a private test by repeatedly logging in and out of Gmail.

Unsigned British band 7 Seconds Of Love has reached an out-of-court settlement with Coca-Cola over the soft drinks giant's use of their material in a TV commercial.
An advert for Coca Cola, shown in Argentina, borrowed liberally from the music and video for the band's song Ninja, from 2005, which featured kittens in ninja outfits bouncing up and down.

Google plans to extend its online advertising network to offline billboard ads, according to reports of a new patent filing.
The search leader would allow retailers to buy space on local interactive ad hoardings that would display corresponding ads when the advertiser has items in stock.

Intrigue and confusion over at TechCrunch UK following what appears to be a dispute between Sam Sethi and TechCrunch head honcho Michael Arrington, with Sethi losing out and moving on.
In his (now removed) final post Sethi wrote:
"Following yesterday’s post about Le Web and Loic’s retort. It seems Mike Arrington has disagreed with my post and opinion believing my actions to be vindictive towards Loic. What was said between Mike and I will remain confidential but suffice to say I can no longer remain with TechCrunch UK & Ireland.

A candidate in the French presidential race has proposed a social "revolution" founded on free, open source software.
Francois Bayrou, leader of the centrist Union for French Democracy (UDF), spoke of his appreciation for wikis and said he wants to create "a society based on shared culture, science and knowledge".

Our thanks to all the party people who braved the freezing December weather to turn up to last night’s Christmas bash, hosted by Lemon Studios and E-consultancy.

Once again, certain partygoers lasted the whole eight-hour duration - until 2am - fuelled by heady combinations of Long Island Iced Teas, lagers, whisky and champagne. And whatever the hell Linus 'Night Bus' Gregoriadis was quaffing (above).

Michael Arrington at TechCrunch has been hit with a cease and desist order by lawyers acting on behalf on YouTube.
His 'crime' was to post an article advising readers how to download videos from YouTube to an iPod, or a computer’s hard drive. Arrington had checked YouTube’s terms of use before posting this, and found nothing in there to prevent this.
Or so they thought…
