Marketing Director at Start-up / growth companies
From November 1, 2010 and still in this role.

In most cases I act as a hands-on, freelance Marketing Director / CMO for funded start-ups and high growth internet ventures to launch, grow or re-focus marketing efforts. Typical work includes defining marketing strategy, marketing planning, establishing structure and frameworks, optimising marketing channels and identifying new ones, supplier selection and putting teams in place. My goals are to 1) deliver immediate value and 2) always leave the company in a better place than it was before I joined. Some of the businesses I have worked with include: Voyage Privé - re-focused all marketing efforts and delivered the inaugural TV campaign; Forward - marketing planning and proposition development across the portfolio of companies; Graze - marketing consultancy; HouseTrip - interim CMO role to set up new marketing functions and clarify brand positioning

From June 1, 2010 until October 1, 2010.

Premium daily deals site backed by Index Ventures and PROfounders Capital and acquired by Time Out. Grew the member base 10x and considerably reduced cost per acquisition.

Head of Customer Acquisition at LOVEFiLM
From February 1, 2008 until June 1, 2010.

Managed all marketing channels through two years of considerable growth and profitability. Balanced a £29m annual budget to recruit over 2m customers since joining and deliver 27% YOY growth in paying customer numbers. Generated higher lifetime value via reduced blended cost of acquisition and higher triallist conversion rates. Handled commercial negotiations with key partners – Amazon, Tesco, Easy and WHS – and built new customer propositions. Drove performance from a team of 6 channel specialists and 12 senior agency staff. Played a major part in making the company attractive for takeover, which occurred in Jan 2011 by Amazon.
