Managing director (and, formerly sales director) at New Start Publishing Ltd
From December 1, 1998 until October 1, 2010.

In 1998 two colleagues and I launched New Start to meet a need we had identified for a dedicated magazine for the regeneration sector. My initial role was as sales director (and one of 3 directors running the business); I became MD in December 2007. New Start became a thriving business, successfully maintaining its independence and values, and highly regarded within the regeneration and social enterprise sectors. The magazine was a high quality monthly publication available to subscibers, with a free news website and email bulletin. Alongside this we ran events, provided training and consultancy, and offered a print and design service. Our team of 9 employees, and additional freelancers, worked hard to provide our clients and readers with exceptional content and services. My responsibilities included revenue generation, launching and running new events, staff management, subscription marketing and growth, recruitment, strategic partnerships, launching new products. In December 2009 the New Start team were awarded "Team of the Year" by the Independent Publishers Advisory Council for 'exceptional' commitment to, and engagement with, our sector. In October 2010 New Start magazine was acquired by CLES Online to become a new service for CLES members and former NS subscribers.
