About Me
- Started in retail and mail order back at the end of the seventies.
- Spent a while in magazine publishing.
- Got involve in creating web sites in 1994. Launched an early user-generated guide to the UK (now in its second decade, though I have no connection with it). Worked on early online promotions and even experimental online shops for various clients. Spent a lot of time trying to track visitors, as opposed to 'hits', using the log file analysis tools of the time.
- These days I have combined two strands from my career:
- Mail order customer experience from my retailing days
- On-line user experience and web analytics from my long on-line history to offer consultancy and analytics services to small/medium retailers.
- I usually work on a retainer basis on projects lasting months or years, but I also work on shorter engagements providing e-commerce site audits and analytics mentoring.
- Given my holistic approach to e-commerce I have a strong involvement in Usability, SEO and SEM, but with all but the smaller clients I work in conjunction with agencies specialising in those fields.
