I trained as a factory accountant and worked in engineering, food manufacturing and chemicals before joining a 300 strong UK management consultancy in my early thirties. I wasn’t seeing enough of wife and family so, at 40, I went into business on my own with the declared aim of working 40 weeks a year and having 12 weeks off. Now, at 75, I work 12 short weeks a year and have 40 weeks off.My work has been a mix of consultancy assignments, acquisition studies and training programmes for managers.
Clients have included Bass the brewer, the BBC, United Biscuits, Rank Hovis, Wincanton, St Ivel, Book Club Associates. Stag Furniture, The North Lancs Training Group, Rothmans’ Cigarettes, Martini Bacardi, Novartis pharmaceuticals, The Church Army as well as dozens of family owned private companies.
