We have been using an agency to manage our SEM on and off for the last few years. In September they announced that they were changing the way they charge, introducing management and tracking fees in additional to CPC. Is this standard?

    Hi Duncan

The industry standard would be a management fee and that is also negotiable.

    Hello Duncan,

Agree that it is standard practice now to pay a management fee but make sure you're paying for a management service not just a reporting service. We've taken on several clients who were paying a management fee but actually all they received was a report. A good management service should do everything you want at a fee acceptable to both parties.

    All the best,

    Chris.

I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't the agency trying to claw back some of their lost BPF (Best Practice Funding) revenue. Historically, Google have offered rebates to agencies but announced last year that these rebates were being reduced at the start of 2008 and going away entirely at the start of 2009.
