Hi all
We are in the throes of attempting to implement 3-D secure using Secpay as the PSP and our own front end. With 6 sites in 6 languages, it's proving to be a major (expensive) task, and secpay don't support the programming side of things. Which is helpful.
My questions are:
- has anyone else done it yet?
- how hard was it, and how did you test it?
- has it effected sales?
- are there any useful reference sites or consultants out there?
All in all, this is giving the business a major headache, so any help gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi,
We are in the process of working on this.
The Card issuers are applying pressure to acquirers who inturn are applying pressure to us the merchants, but unless the PSP's can handle it we are unable to make the move forward.
Our PSP have as yet been unable to provide a test platform for us.
We have a maintenance contract with our PSP, who will be providing us with technical integration details, then our Web team will code up the relevant web pages and our mail order software provider will integrate the changes with our back office.
The whole role out of 3-D secure has been a farse, I understand at present that unless you as a merchant are targetted you will get away with staying as you are.
There's a thread here about Fraud

Some other links - but your Acquiring bank should provide all the info you need.

Hope this helps.

Glad to see an active debate on this subject. My experience so far has been retailers have been asking about it as a result of the pressure and threat of fines they're receiving from the acquiring banks, PSPs pushing for it because of the pressure they're getting from the acquiring banks - but - when you stop and ask the retailers whether they would turn on this extra checkout step in their busiest sales period (Q4), most say they would leave it off!
I must admit to being baffled why, in the age of streamlining and improving the checkout experience for buyers, we are adding in this extra step. Aren't conversations going to drop even further from their already low 44% average? How about taking out the requirement for buyers to enter so much information (card number, expiry date, names on card, billing address, CVV and in some cases issue numbers) and just have the long card number, CVV and a password instead? Wouldn't that suffice???
Wishful thinking and we're too far down this path to change strategy now - so I'd be interested in what others are thinking about this new technology. In particular, how likely are banks to start dishing out fines and when?
Thanks.
James.

We had a call from our bank last week saying that we'd no longer be able to take mastercard maestro cards from yesterday (1st Aug). We don't see many maestro payments so I'm not that worried.
From a fining POV, they've said unless they see a 3-D secure project plan, they will start fining 'soon' - whenever that is. Luckily I've got a project plan in place, so they've given us a grace period till Xmas to get this completed. It's quite nice to see a bank being flexible, but I'm worried that when we switch this on, it will impact on sales. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who has implemented this already, and whether their sales are effected.
Cheers

Hi Charon
In answer to your question on 3D secure, I can confirm we have experience in implementing 3D secure, take a look at Harvey Nichols online store: http://shop.harveynichols.com/pws/Home.ice . FYI we use Secure Trading as our preferred PSP.
