I wouldn't necessarily worry too much about:
- how many followers you have: quality is a far better metric than quantity.
- unfollows: they could be spammers, people looking just for a follow themselves etc.
However, if the unfollows are coming from individuals you'd specifically want to keep, in which case you probably need to take a closer look at your Twitter behaviour.
Anon's rules are good ones. A simple question that I ask myself before tweeting is 'Would this be of interest to the people I'm interested in having as followers?'
