Some time ago a seem to remember reading that a significant amount of consumers buying offline, maybe as many as 80%, are researching their purchase online first.
I can't find the original research paper and would be grateful if anyone has any verified stats on this or can point me in the right direction for the actual figure.

I would also add to the Comscore study that people research in social media particularly online forums and message boards (more than blogs) before buying both on and offline. This tends to be forgetten by retailers / brands obsessed with their website experience and not looking beyond to the information / opinion gathering that goes on before they get to their websites.
