I received an unsolicited email from Sonya, a Google Account Strategist, inviting me for an account review, with a view to improving our PPC campaign.

I wasn't sure what to make of her approach.

Is she just after increasing our monthly spend?

Or is she like the friendly policewoman, who pulls you over to suggest you should really take some more driving tuition?

Or is Google just trying to be helpful?

Whatever she has to say, is it likely to be impartial?

    Kind regards,

Chris (advertising manager for a tradesmen company)

    they do do this occasionally.

They have spoken to me before about optimising our account, but after seeing their suggestions, i thought we'd stay on our own. No-one knows your business like you know it. Just because they have a  few tools that you have as well in adwords, doesn't make them know a lot. They know the interface and how to use the keyword selector, but thats about it. (oh, and how to say " if you increased your daily budget" blah blah would happen)

I imagine they could be helpful for the starter campaigns and people who don't really know or have the time to manage it, but for someone who uses it everyday and speands a lot, it's pretty worthless.

It depends what your surrent strategy is - I would say if you want to develop a more sphisiticated strategy then it is worth talking to them. If you arent on an ROI strategy they can help you to get on one and you really should be. If you want some impartial advice you can talk to me!

We had a similar email and agreed for Google to take a look at our strategy. After ten days or so you're invited to log in to your account and agree/ delete the campaigns they set up. I figured their suggestions looked odd, so agreed everything but turned down the daily spend. We've been very impressed with the clickthrough rates and price per new visitor. I say give it a go. You've got very little to lose.
