I have just started a small business (www.SPEEDFLIRT.co.uk) and although still early days, am ready to start progressing with the next idea in parallel, knowing full well (after the first one) that it can take 4- to 6 months to get anything ready for the end-consumer.
I want to develop some relatively simple mobile application products such as a mobile raffle application. Someone I am sure will have already created something out there, just that I havent found it yet!
However, if it is a simple app, I would prefer to build it myself, so I can white label it. Does anyone have any expereience in this area, and would they be willing to have a chat face-to-face on the subject?
NB: I am always open to partnerships with people who have energy and common sense in abundance!
If you after building something yourself I'd recommend looking at some of the Open Source projects out there that have already built systems similar to the one you are talking about. The Kannel Project (http://www.kannel.org) has a SMS gateway that will work well with a very reasonably priced SIM modem so you could get up and running quickly and cheaply.
Finally if you get stuck and still can't find what you want, then you can very reasonably get a programmer to build it for you. Rent a coder, (http://www.rentacoder.com) is one of the great places out there for this.

Hi Alastair, before you go too far - you might want to do some background legal checks on mobile raffles. Gaming in the UK is very highly regulated and so your raffle (lottery) needs to be structured very carefully. For example, with few exeptions you are not allowed to charge (directly or indirectly) people for raffle tickets.

Have a look at the user mail groups (http://www.mail-archive.com/users@kannel.3glab.org/) which has a good discussion from users all around the place doing projects like yours.
