Does anyone happen to know any official stats for % of users who use internal site search as opposed to navigation. I've done a google search which has come up with conflicting results. Found an old Avinash Kaushik post from 2006 which said around 10% use it while a google report from this year says 90% use it - feels like a big jump so not sure which end of the scale is correct!

My guess would be: it's very low. Mostly I'll hit a page within a site from a Google search, rather than start at the homepage and search from there. Certainly across our sites, we're seeing more people enter at the page in question rather than navigate down with a site search. Anecdotal evidence at least. ;)
