I currently work for an advertising company who run pages in the back of the Sunday Newspaper Magazines.

The company has decided to enrol me on a training course that will help me develop my skills in the areas of SEO, PPC advertising and Online Marketing. MY only trouble is, that I don't know what courses are out there for me at this moment in time.

If anybody is 'in the know' please could you share your knowledge and let me know too.

    Thanks alot

    Hi Johnny

You may want to also consider the Institute of Direct Marketing and NMA. As a search marketing agency we (SiteVisibility) also run SEO & PPC training courses and we focus on the publishing sector. In terms of delivery we use e-learning techniques, so you can complete the training in your own time and pace. All trainees recieve an online tutor for email and phone support. Hope this helps. SiteVisibility - training website

Thanks for sharing your 'know how'

Looking around those courses it says that I need some experience; which I dont really have. Im still a novice. I was really after a course that I can enrol on which is spread over a year or so, and at the end will give me an equivalant qualification to a degree. Do you know of anything along these lines.

Thanks for your help so far...

    Thanks, your site looks interesting.

Wondering what kind of qualification I will get on completion of the course?

    Hi Jonny

Unfortunately none of the courses avalible by any of the provdiders are accredited by a University but if you were to enrole on one of our PPC courses we would get you take a Google Adwords PPC exam which would give you a digital certificate from Google like this one we have

If you are looking for a certificate of some sort then the IDM would be your best bet.

    Hi Johnny

All courses, including ours, typically qualify for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits. However, if you want a post-graduate certificate or diploma in digital marketing then the IDM offers these - the certificate would be the place to start if you are still a novice.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing also offer an e-Marketing Award

Formal accreditation for post-graduate qualifications is something we will be offering soon but don't at the moment.

After looking at the IDM courses, I can see that this is the kind of thing that I would be willing to undertake. Is the IDM a recognized organisation, giving me a recognized qualification? Also if I covered all the modules, would it teach me the basics of SEO, PPC and online marketing?

Thanks for your help so far

    Hi Johnny

Yes, The IDM is recognised - it's the world's largest direct marketing training organisation.

I wrote much of the original 'digital' content on the Certificate & Diploma courses, and contributed to the recent overhaul: you will find that the courses give you a solid grounding in digital marketing, and in the often forgotten testing principles of direct marketing. You'll get similar groundings in mobile and offline media marketing too.

What you can't easily get from the course materials is bang up to date reference on current best practices: digital practice moves too fast for it to be included in course documentation. Lecturers may give you some insights. Participating in forums like this one, and specialist PPC/SEO communities is the only way to keep right up to date.

    Thanks for your input,

I do see that that the IDM certificate in Digital Marketing is spread of different modules. My company is specifically interested in modules 9, 10 and 11. Is there any other courses that are directly related to these modules. Or do you know of any recognised courses covering SEO, PPC and general Online Marketing.
