hi, Mark, how are you?
You're unlucky in that there's a skills shortage here: there are plenty of average/good people in this space & far less really great people.
But, you're lucky, in that it's easy to reach website managers: they all read blogs/forums, they often look at the same websites/listen to the same podcasts/etc. & the community is quite close-knit (so reaching a few allows you to reach many fairly quickly). Why not approach a few of the bigger blogs in this space, post on a few forums, or even approach some web managers directly (pick a few great sites in your space & drop them an email) asking if they know anyone who'd be interested? Put together a decent 'wanted' page on your site as a linkable focal point, etc.
It's also worth posting your email address here. I'd be surprised if there aren't a couple of interested people reading this.
Hope that helps,
daniel

CEO at Econsultancy

Hi Mark
Obviously E-consultancy is a good place to advertise... ; (looks like you're third on Google UK for a search on Website Manager)
In terms of other places - it depends on the nature of the role. For technical roles I'd look to specialist job boards (like 37Signals' one). For digital marketing roles the other usual suspect would be Chinwag (http://jobs.chinwag.com/).
We've found that using LinkedIn has worked well for us - not so much the posting of a job but the proactive approaching of relevant people.
I also wonder whether the salary you are offering (£25k) is a bit low compared to market rates?

I hadn't looked at the ad previously, but, having looked at the 'key responsibilities' & the 'location', I have to agree with Ashley that the salary seems lower than the market. If you'd handed me the job spec & asked me to guess the salary I'd have missed the ballpark entirely.

Hi Mark
I would suggest using online media to source your website manager as good candidates are more likely to be searching using this medium rather than press. Try:
www.theitjobboard.com
www.cwjobs.co.uk
www.computerweekly.com/Jobs/Search.aspx
These sites have been successful for me in the past at attracting good
candidates for web positions,
regards

It depends on what level you are looking for - planet recruit for cheap, guardian for medium level and agencies for high level strategic website managers.
There are alot of people out there talking themselves up right now, so be very exacting in your job spec. Even at the level of web developer I kick back 99% of the CV's I get sent.
Group e-Business Development Manager at private
22 April 2007 16:48pm
Hi Mark,
I agree with MercedesClark-Smith entirely. I am the Group e-Business development Manager for our Company, responsible for a team of 29 online coordinators plus four National Online Coordinators - all responsible for delivering my e-commerce strategy throughout our Group of Companies. I have struggled to find the best people due to lots of candidates over-selling thier abilities and skill-sets to me during initial sifting. I tend to use good agencies - but even then to be honest it's a bit of a lottery as the agency will always try to send you more candidates than they really should. More recently, I've been considering a move myself as I've been in the role for over six years and I feel the first signs that I'm growing stale where I am, which I hate, so I've been looking for new opportunities myself and have been very dissapointed with the job market for our sort of specific experience and skills. Let me know if you do find a reliable agency for placements as I may well contact them to help me for once!
