Director of eCommerce at Thomas Cook

I am looking for some names and working examples of compaines that can develop world class in-site “Search” functionality – i.e. I want to include a quick search function on our sites and we may need some external development resource to build a good/smart search facility. I think we need something more than an off the shelf package given the complexity of some of the search terms that could be entered. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend inquira, a US based company that is expanding its UK operations, they have a a good customer focused ystem that is being used by several airline, car rental etc so may be relevant to you especially. Check out their site and client sites. Its expecially good at letting user type in natural language search, long queries etc.

Elaine,
I am looking for proven implementations of this functionality - we have a number of developers at our disposal already but I was hoping to find a package that could be quickly and easily tailored to our various sites. So I suppose neither developer nor consultant but rather someone who can implement this with a proven track record. Hope that helps.

Hello Russell,
You will likely hear from many vendors out there. I'd like to suggest one vendor-neutral source (disclosure: my own site) on Enterprise and Web Search tools:
