Hi
I was wondering if anyone had had a good experience with any SEO agencies. I have been given some names - Spannerworks, Guava and Clickthrough Marketing but would be open to other companies too.
We're a publishing company with a large amount of keywords that need reviewing and potentially managing. I had a bad experience a few years ago and want to ensure that this time I get someone professional and commercial.
Any recommendations much appreciated.

I've never used them, but I've been at a couple of Spannerworks presentations, I've also been in audiences alongside their employees & have seen some examples of their work. They've always come across as extremely knowledgable, professional & customer-focussed.

I recommended three companies to our clients whenever they want to work on SEO;
Spannerworks
Bigmouthmedia
Propellernet
I'm currently working with Bigmouth and Propellernet for two of my clients and have met with Spannerworks several times - all three are professional and credible.

Hi Karen,
Given that you are a publishing company, I would strongly recommend www.sitevisibility.co.uk, who work with publishers such as Centaur (Precision Marketing) and Incisive Media (Legal Week). Contact is Damon Lightley.
They are excellent.

I've just gone through a selection process and I've shortlisted to 2 - Greenlight and All Response Media - the latter aren't search specific but they have a partnership with a company in India who monitor your campiagns 24/7. The former are search specific and seem to be expanding nicely.

Karen - I'm in publishing too, to be honest I'd spend your time making sure your sites are search engine friendly by making it an internal policy - you'vre probably got loads of content to attract users, if your sites are built right to start with then you've won half the battle.
Talk to Steve Johnston: www.johnston.co.uk - He's a Google Consultant and can advise you on how to improve your sites accessibility for googlebot - the rest is up to your editors and you.
We're using him at the moment and he's great.

It's our AdWords that need reviewing ultimately - I am trying to do the organic search internally as you've suggested. The AdWords is a real headache though and we have too many for one person to monitor.
Thanks for the advice.

hi, Karen,
if it's your AdWords that need reviewing then what you need is not an SEO agency (though some do offer that service). You're looking for either a broader service (SEM - search engine marketing) provider, or a PPC (pay per click) specialist. Latitude are very good in that space: http://www.searchlatitude.com
Prior to going down that road though - how many ads are you running & how much are you spending per month? Google themselves offer account management if your expenditure is at a certain level, or they deem you an important customer.
Additionally, if you're happier to keep things internal & would just like someone to look over your campaign & make some suggestions, I'd be happy to do that (danielb@brkr.org).
