well, I am brand new to this site, but I am a member of many... I have a question for all you pollished veterans of the web...
What kind of costs are involved in making a Video-on-demand website?
Basically I want to give my users the ability to upload videos to a gallery on my website, and have others view and download these videos concurrently... sorta like youtube.
Now, I am not aiming at such a large audience of users like youtube does, I am aiming at a very particular niche -
However I have no idea about the costs of providing such a service.
I already have a website up, but video is what I want to unleash.
If you have any knowledge of what typical bandwidth would cost, hosting suggestions, etc for this sort of setup, please let me know
I havent estimated how many users would be actively vieiwing / uploading video - but lets say, for examples sake - that each user would have an average of possibly 10 videos each uploaded, and guests visiting my website may be viewing an average of 10 videos each visit.
Does anyone know how much a service like this would costs? How and where could I host such a beast? Would I need my own dedicated server? DO you have experience in developing or working on a project like this?
Anyhelp / suggestions / links would be HUGELY appreciated
The best and most cost effective solution to your video on demand issue can be found at www.jamoncam.com . Also, while you're there, check out the bandwith calculator. If you need more help, feel free to email me @ jamoncamUSA@yahoo.com
I apologise but I am not able to offer you any solutions to this - but I am in need of similar advice.
Would it be awful to tag into this and ask you if you have received any feedback to this and anything you have found out.
Many thanks

We have recently launched video streaming on our site via a thrid party called "limelight networks" http://www.limelightnetworks.com/ and They are alot more cost effective than i imagined
We purchased the minimum broadband of them plus a monthly hosting charge and have placed numerous video files on our site and still have a huge amount of space left.
They are a leading provider of high-performance content delivery network services. Limelight digitally delivers content for traditional companies or content providers, including businesses operating in the television, music, radio, newspaper, magazine, movie, videogame and software industries.
Using Limelight's content delivery network , we were able to give our end-users a high-quality experience for rich media content.
Thanks
