Help! I've been charged with designing and setting up an online forum for a small B2B website and have no idea where to start (I'm actually a sales person). Can anyone offer advice or refer me to a good site - I've tried searching but can't seem to find anything. Also how do you go about moderating the forum once it's up and running?

Obviously we run a B2B forum (this one). Emint is where you should go to meet the online community professionals and ask there advice.
Briefly I would say:- There are plenty of free, or very good value, software tools/services out there to run online forums (e.g. http://www.vbadvanced.com/ which powers http://www.a4uforum.co.uk/ among many others)
- There are also specialists companies to whom you can outsource the whole lot (technology, marketing, moderation etc.) including Sift, Magicalia etc. From what you say, however, I suspect they will be too pricy for you.
- There are also specialist forum moderator companies (e.g. Chat Moderators) who can help with running the forum and advising on how to set it up.
Also, (with all due resepct of course!), running a successful online community or forum is not easy, or that cheap, so I wouldn't expect a sales person to be put in charge of such a thing.
A poor effort at a forum, or 'community', is much worse than no effort at all.

Ashley - Came across this posting from last year - do you have any additional recommendations in terms of potential suppliers/sources of best practice? Have eConsultancy done a supplier review for this area?
