Post Grad Student at City University

I am currently seeking a client who requires the design and build of a website (possibly content management system driven). This is part of my Masters Degree and replaces the traditional concept of a dissertation.
The primary objective is for the student to undertake an independent piece of work of adequate standard to fulfil the necessary requirements for a Master's degree. The finished product should also meet the specified needs and interests of the host organisation, but the degree requirements are paramount. The exercise should not be regarded as a work placement or confidential contract research, rather as a means of providing students with an opportunity to generate an electronic publication which satisfies real commercial or organisational criteria.
I do not intend to charge for my skills but to require the client to be fully committment to support me in the completion of the project and my Masters Degree.

Interesting concept. Coupla thoughts here :
1) Could you not build your own, set the criteria yourself etc. or would that be against the marking criteria here?
2) What development environments do you / can you work in? Not all websites are created equal (or even validated, for that matter), and this info will help potential "clients" decide if you would be a good choice for them

1) The marking criteria is fairly loose in terms of the actual electronic product. What is important for me as a student is to have an experience in a creative and technical process that can be critiqued in a report I must write which replaces the dissertation.
2) My course has been based around HTML with some introduction to Multimedia (Macromedia Flash). The work I have undertaken in Content Management used Open Source Software (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP). Though the priciples of database driven content management are the same across various software platforms.

I see. I guess the idea is to provide a more vocational approach. Excellent idea, IMO. Far too many "web designers" think that a brand new copy of FrontPage, and the ability to ask for £100/hour without bursting into laughter makes them an "internet professional".
Working to a client spec is *always* an education (I usually learn that I should be pushing pharmaceuticals at 17%+ of sale ;-) )
What HTML version do you write in, if there is any specific version?

Your project sounds interesting.
I run a charity called blood as a volunteer and am currently trying to figure out how we can expand our website (www.bloodarts.org) at low cost.
My day job is strategy/customer experience with a consulting firm called Javelin Group, we build sites among other things but unfortunately our developers are constantly too busy on client work to take on my charity project. This does mean that I have a good process for planning and managing a site build project which I could share with you for your dissertation. Plus lots of experience of working with clients as a consultant...
Why don't you have a look at the blood website and let me know if you would be interested in it as a project.
