I am looking to scope out web development costs for a database subscription service I am planning to launch in January 2008. Can anyone recommend any web design companies that would be good at the following:
Effective security to ensure the database cannot be easily captured and copied elsewhere
Effective password protection (for example changed on monthly basis) to ensure passwords are not shared and sales market therefore reduced
eCommerce functionality to allow for purchases to be made on the site
Use of RSS feeds from a pre-determined group of sites to facilitate the following
Search queries across either the whole group of sites or a section of them
Email alerts generated from these search queries
News feeds available on site pulling from a number of combined RSS feeds
Possible integration with API's from a few well-known sites to facilitate continual update of specific elements of the database
I hope this all makes sense - have had to keep specific details vague for the moment, but would be glad of any assistance!
Thanks

Whilst we don't do any development might I suggest you consider us as an option for testing the application once it has been developed. We provide a valuable audit and QA function as we have no vested interest in the development process, ensuring you get the application you paid for. We have worked with dozens of develepment agencies on many different ecommerce projects either on behalf of our clients or directly for the agencies. Our services include functionality testing, cross browser testing and Accessibility testing.
I'd like to speak with you regarding this project. I work for USi and one of our specialties is web development for eCommerce. I'll need a few more details in order to provide some ballpark pricing. Visit our website www.usi.com
Send me an email to with your contact information . I'm in the Pacific time zone.
Thanks,
Byron...

We offer bespoke development for projects such as yours, unfortunately it wouldn't be possible to give you a cost based on those details but we can give estimates with a bit more information.
We have e-commerce experience in commercial software, open source software and bespoke development and can advise on payment service providers etc.
Please get in touch if with if you would like an estimate or have a look at our background and portfolio at www.deeson.co.uk/emedia/ . All developers, designers etc are in-house.
Best wishes
Tim

This is the sort of thing that Free Rein (http://www.free-rein.net) does but whether we are the best in terms of price and functionality would depend upon the detail.
Please send me your contact details so we can put an NDA in place and then we can get down to specifics. Our solutions are used, and cost in, by anyone from small local business to global and blue-chip.
Suggest you also browse the e-consultancy supplier directory. Probably best to find a business near you given you timetable.
