Sitting at Total Control Systems (UK) Ltd

Where I work we host our own corporate website on a Comms Server. Can anyone recommend a software package that we purchase & install locally on are web server? Rather than rely on gaining Web Visitor statistics and reports from an external third party provider?

I have used web trends and urchin.
Web trends just ground to a hault and two of use spent a week trying to get it to work again but gave up in the end.
we got an Urchin licence from our host for $1 so we thought its worth a look and I have to say its better than web trends.

Thanks John for your quick reply. The thing is, I would prefer to purchase the software and install it onto our own dedicated Web server, rather than rely on a third party 'Hosted' package. Does any know of software company that actually SELLS this rather than provide it as an ongoing (low cost) monthly service?
Thanks again for your time and responses, Vic.

You can install webtrends and urchin on your server.
We provide access to our customers to it for a monthly fee :-)
I would recomend http://www.urchin.com/ Which you can install on your server.
It has a javascript tracking modul that you can put on all you pages and get proper unique user info etc too..
Cheers

Vic,
Depends what you are looking for and whether understanding the performance of the site against your corporate targets and objectives is.
If all you are looking for is basic stats then you could go for a free product eg Analog or a low price product eg Sawmill. But if you want more than this ie real web analytics you will need to spend a bit more.
If your web channel is an integral part of your marketing mix and a major part of your communications with your customers/partners/staff then you should look at a product that will allow you to answer the real business questions that arise. Then you can ensure you are managing your spend against the targets and objectives you have set.
If this is the case then why not sign up for the netimperative/eConsultancy Web Analytics Beauty Parade mid March when you'll hear pitches from 6 organisations that could help you. We'll be presenting!

About half the web analytics vendors in the UK provide an ASP service, the other half are software products that are installed on your web server. The e-consultancy report on web analytics gives you a pretty good overview of the marketplace and tells you whether they are ASP or software.
Which product is right for you very much depends on your analytics needs - what are you actually looking to measure? It also obviously depends on your budget. It sounds like you are looking for a relatively cheap and cheerful solution, which rules out most of the web analytics vendors going after big transactional sites who can justify spending a decent amount of money on getting accurate information about their website visitors' behaviour.
If your measurement needs are more basic, you will still have a choice of products below say £5,000. If your budget is very small, have a look at ClickTracks (www.clicktracks.com), it starts literally at $500 but still offers great function and ease of use. WebAbacus (www.webabacus.co.uk) also offer a good entry level product at a few £k.
But as I said, there are others, so do a bit of research and make up your own mind (before the web analytics community starts shouting at me for being biased!).
