Our client is using webtrends and wants us to set it up so that Webtrends will record searches.     When we asked for more information they sent the administrator's guide which was somewhat more information than we needed.  We also have some goddledegook from Webtrends support.

I would like to sell the client a small amount of Webtrends consultancy to resolve their various issues.

Anyone interested please drop me a line at .

    Hi Bob

WebTrends training material and marketing material are an absolute nightmare - completly incomprehensible. You'd think they would actually want people to use the very expensive piece of kit they've purchased!

I assume you mean internal site searches?  You can set these up through the URL parameter anaylysis function.  Through the Admin Login you need to go to the Report Configuration, followed by URL Parameters. Set up a new Analysis and you need the following information:

    • The URL of the search results page
    • The parameter identifier

Fill these into the fields and save.

You may then need to go back to the report designer to add to the new analysis to the listings in the normal webtrends view.

Feel free to contact me off-listing if you need more info (tracy.davis@bsigroup.com)

That sounds like it is on the money.  Many thanks.  We had been using the POST method to submit the search which I guess we have to change to GET. Other than that: - over to the client as we don't have access to the admin area.

    Agreed about the Webtrends documentation...

Hi, I work in web analytics and would agree this is the criticism we communly hear about webtrends, together with the non user-friendly interface and the lack of KPI setting and support. Should you want to consider an alternative application that comes hands in hands with consultancy and training so you can get accurate data and an adequate ROI, let me know.

    Hello Bob

Did you find your WebTrends consultant?

If so, I really like a recommendation as we are struggling as well.

    Many thanks

Sounds like you're not having much luck unfortunately Bob and Mark! Can I suggest we have an offline conversation about how Nedstat could help? It might be worth considering other options, for now or the future. As I had mentioned, a major reason why companies come to us is because of the level of support and business consultancy we provide our clients with. Should you want to discuss further, feel free to email me @  for my full contact details.
