I am looking for recommendations for an SEO agency/ independent consultant.
I am looking for help with an existing SEO programme that has recently suffered in Google. Experience in competitive markets is essential.
Recommendations much appreciated.

Why has it suffered? What do you feel is the problem? How comptitive is 'your' market? What does success look like?

The company which I work for, Red Ant will be able to help you - if you can email me the details then we can have a look at the issues you are facing and then discuss in more depth.

Thanks for all the replies. David, the problem could be attributed to a number of things, which we're working on at the moment - but the really confusing thing is that the rankings are dissapearing and then returning.
So if it is a penalty, then it's one which is coming and going. Here's what happens:
• Home page loses top 5 ranking for main term and goes to position 9 – 14• Home page loses top 10 ranking for secondary term – page is not returned in SERPS• Sub-pages lose top 10/20 positions for relevant terms – only other internal pages from the news/articles sections will then show for these terms in the 300 – 700 position range
Then all the listing return - absolutely perfectly - as if nothing ever happened.
Anyone got any ideas / seen similar?

HiMoneySpyder seem to have happy clients. Get them on www.moneyspyder.co.uk. We share offices with them and they seem to talk sensibly. Kate

www.Bergstrom-seo.com is pretty good. We have offices in USA, Canada and India. We’ve managed to provide our clients with a USA level of service and a price that is comparable with prices of India companies. So, I don’t think that you’ll go wrong with us. You can view our plans and services document here:
Berstrom's personalized SEO services.
You’re not going to get a good/legit analysis of what’s gone wrong unless you can give someone a full description of what your previous SEO company has been doing.

This could be for a couple of reasons:
The most important question to ask yourself is "did our traffic suffer?" and "did our business suffer?" If the answer is no then you are possibly reviewing rankings for the wrong keywords.
Focus on the information that your analytics gives you.
I agree completely with Crack Jack that without a full review of your website and the actions taken by your SEO, then a good answer cannot really be given.
