Job Description
In the world of retail, things happen fast. Especially at Shop Direct. The name behind some of the UK’s best known brands, we have ambitious plans for the future. In fact, we aim to become the home of online retail. By delivering a great online experience in either our soft or hard product category, you’ll have a vital role to play.
About the role
You’ll make sure our Group websites delight our customers and offer experiences that are both intuitive and inspiring. You’ll keep our sites on brand and your customer-centric approach will ensure that people always find what they were looking for – and buy it. We’ll expect you to develop a strong understanding of customer journeys within your specific category by using web analytics, usability research and competitor comparisons. Your role also involves delivering wireframes, optimising top-level navigation for your category, and liaising with Brand and Buying & Merchandising to reduce bounce rates, drive up conversion and encourage repeat visits. We want to be at the forefront of online retail so we’ll look to you to introduce new innovations in web functionality and to keep up with wider industry trends.
Candidate Requirements
About you
With a background in either soft or hard category management, you’ll have a proven track record in online merchandising and a good understanding of current and emerging e-business methodologies and processes. You’ll know how to analyse the user experience using competitor, customer and market insights, and you’ll be able put yourself in our customers’ shoes. Experience of managing the needs of Marketing and Product & Merchandising teams is important and you should be committed to process improvement. For the soft category, you’ll come from another fashion retail website and for the hard category, you could be working for either an electrical retail or price comparison site. Either way, this is a chance to make your mark and bring an entire range to the forefront of online retailing.
About us
With companies ranging from Littlewoods, Kays and Very through to Marshall Ward and Woolworths.co.uk, and some 400 national and own brands such as Nike, Diesel, Miss Sixty, Dyson, Bosch and Sony, Shop Direct has something for everyone. We have our own financial services business and, with a turnover of £1.6 billion and 5 million customers, we’re the largest home shopping and online retailer in the UK. Some 56% of our products are now sold online – and we’re on track to hit our target of 80% by 2010/2011. In fact, we want to become the home of online retail. And you could help us get there.
