Job Description

In the world of retail, things happen fast. Especially at Shop Direct. The name behind some of the UK’s best known brands, we have ambitious plans for the future. In fact, we aim to become the home of online retail. In this highly visible role, you’ll make sure our content is world-class and propels us to the top of every relevant search.

About the role

Taking overall responsibility for the online content and SEO for all of our Group websites, you’ll keep our content interesting, engaging and of course, search engine optimised. You’ll need to set the SEO agenda and strategy to get us the highest possible rank in natural search results, building relationships with major search engines and always looking for ways to improve our performance. At the same time, we’ll expect you to develop a holistic approach to the development of both our product content, including descriptions, imagery and video, and our non-product content such as editorial and customer feedback. This isn’t just about providing information, it’s about delivering content that will drive traffic to our site, increase our conversion rates and fit in with the values of each individual brand. Throughout, you’ll need to look for ways to incorporate social media and the most cutting-edge web technology.

Candidate Requirements

About you

Extensive e-commerce experience is vital and your focus on content improvement will mean you can demonstrate how you’ve already raised standards and implemented highly innovative, hugely successful ideas. You should be customer-centric with strong brand awareness. It goes without saying that you’ll have an in-depth of understanding of Google ads, web analytics, SEO and its measurement methodologies, and user friendly content. And with proven experience at a similar level, you’ll be able to present to our most senior stakeholders and make things happen at pace. Your background could be agency but ideally you’ll already be working in-house.

About us

With companies ranging from Littlewoods, Kays and Very through to Marshall Ward and Woolworths.co.uk, and some 400 national and own brands such as Nike, Diesel, Miss Sixty, Dyson, Bosch and Sony, Shop Direct has something for everyone. We have our own financial services business and, with a turnover of £1.6 billion and 5 million customers, we’re the largest home shopping and online retailer in the UK. Some 56% of our products are now sold online – and we’re on track to hit our target of 80% by 2010/2011. In fact, we want to become the home of online retail. And you could help us get there.
