Award-winning global games specialist Babel Media has been appointed as an official test house for the Java Verified (tm) Program - a collaborative effort launched by Motorola, Nokia, Siemens, Sony Ericsson and Sun Microsystems.
The program aims to provide a single unified test procedure and an accelerated route to market for Java applications. The Java Verified (tm) Program allows mobile developers to deliver certified applications to operators, providing the assurance that their games have been exhaustively tested and ready for publication.
Babel has been appointed because of its extensive experience working with operators, handset manufacturers and content providers on games and other wireless applications. Since October 2002, the company has been Vodafone's sole accredited testing house for Vodafone Live! Babel works with more than 40 content providers globally across all the latest handsets and in 12 languages.
"There are a number of advantages for developers that use Babel for the Java Verified (tm) Program. Babel can tie in its existing services of localisation, and porting into the program. Furthermore, Babel's recently opened office in San Diego means it can work more closely with U.S. developers and publishers who wish to join the Java Verified(tm) Program," said Juan Dewar, Senior Director, Consumer and Mobile Systems Group, Sun Microsystems.
"The Java Verified (tm) Program is a great step forward for the development community as it addresses the current issues of multiplicity of testing programs and time to market. The Program complements Babel's existing services of localisation, and porting and means the lag between development and publication is dramatically shortened", said Algy Williams, Managing Director at Babel.
To make use of the program, wireless developers can visit www.javaverified.com, where applications submitted for testing will be administered by selected test houses worldwide. Applications are tested for application launch, user interface, functionality, security, network
and localization capabilities. There are currently over 250 million
Java technology-enabled mobile devices deployed by 31 handset manufacturers through 77 operators worldwide.
