Reports suggest that the BBC is negotiating with Google over a deal which would see the corporation’s content being shown on Google Video and YouTube.

It is believed that the BBC is interested in promoting its programming via YouTube and Google Video,  in a deal similar to those with major US broadcasters, including CBS, where content is promoted on the video sharing sites via branded channels.

With Channel 4 making its content available for download online, and ITV planning to follow suit, the BBC has been looking at ways to move its video and audio content online, partly to attract non-UK visitors to its websites.

The BBC has been considering showing adverts to non-UK visitors in a bid to raise extra revenue, to some people an unthinkable move that could raise as much as £105 million per year for the corporation.

However, the BBC could face opposition from Ofcom, which is concerned that making its content available online could have a negative impact on the broadcaster’s internet-focused competitors.
