Seedcamp, the VC-backed project which aims to help foster the next wave of European startups, has said it has received over 260 applications from over 40 countries.
The project, backed by Saul Klein, is running a week long event in London next month, where the five best startups will receive funding of €50,000 to launch their business, in return for a 10% stake.
The winners will be invited to stay on in London for an extra three weeks, where they will received additional support from Seedcamp's network of mentors, which includes, among others, Index Ventures, Atlas Ventures and Niklas Zennstrom, co-founder of Joost and Skype.
Though it was intended for European startups, Seedcamp has received applications from Asia, South America and the US. It will need to whittle down the list to 20 in time for the start of the event on 3rd September.
